Hyundai Motor's operating loss in the first quarter was 356.3 billion won.
Hyundai Motor posted an operating profit of 1.9289 trillion won in the first quarter of this year.
However, in terms of domestic demand alone, it recorded an operating loss of 356.3 billion won.
Hyundai Motor posted its first operating loss in 2018, with an annual deficit of 59.3 billion won at the time. Considering this, the loss of 356.3 billion won in domestic demand in the first quarter of this year is quite large.
The sluggish performance in the domestic market is due to the superficial reasons of production disruption and rising raw material prices.
On top of that, it is evaluated that the loss has been expanded by overlapping the chronic high-wage and low-efficiency work structure of domestic factories.
Against this backdrop, the auto industry union is predicting a hard-line struggle, insisting on a large increase in the basic salary this year.
An industry official stressed, "The fixed high cost and low productivity have revealed how vulnerable the auto manufacturing industry is to external crises."
